If you have been using the openSUSE 12.1 version, it's high time you moved up to later versions, in case you are looking for regular updates. The openSUSE 12.1 has apparently reached the end of its course, after being in use since it was released back in November 2011.

Since then, bug fixes and security support were being provided by SUSE. Now, the developers have recommended users to make the next jump and move to 12.2 and then version 12.3.

OpenSUSE 12.1 was the first release of the distribution, which was maintained by using SUSE's Open Build Service, which offered improved participation by the community; from there onwards, the same set-up has been maintained for all other openSUSE distros.
