Now ownCloud could pose threat to Google Docs, Office 365
Have you heard of the ownCloud Community Edition 6 and its new features? Let us tell you about them. The new feature is called ownCloud Documents and reports say that it could become the ultimate choice for people who use online editing applications often. As you can probably imagine, ownCloud Documents is just like MS Office 365, Google Docs and the Apple iWorks suite. The difference is that ownCloud is a purely open source suite, which supports the ODF format.
From what we understand, ownCloud has definite ties with the KDE community, and its applications use open source technologies that have been developed by KO GmbH. This is the firm that is working on the Krita software that you find in the Calligra Office Suite by KDE. KO GmbH has just a document viewer to offer, while ownCloud offers the entire cloud infrastructure.
