Ubuntu 14.04 to use forked version of GNOME Control Centre
The next iteration of Canonical’s premier Ubuntu operating system is going to incorporate some changes to the GNOME Control Centre. According to recent reports, developers from Mark Shuttleworth’s Canonical have confirmed that they will fork the Control Centre in the new OS. Currently, Ubuntu uses a utility (System Settings), which is a centralised dashboard that brings together the important configuration options for the desktop.
The version of the GNOME Control Centre currently operating on the Ubuntu OS is known as GNOME 3.6. This is a highly patched version of the original version of the Control Centre. In the new OS, though, Canonical is adding a utility known as the Unity Control Centre, which will be making use of the GNOME Control Centre. So, basically, Canonical is forking the utility into its own Ubuntu version.
