TWiki is a structured wiki application written in Perl. It was founded by Peter Thoeny in 1998 as an open source wikibased application platform. It is used as a knowledge or document management system that can be used to create wiki applications using the TWiki Markup Language. It is easy to extend its functionality with plugins. TWiki has an extensive set of features such as access control at the page level, Web level and site level, based on user groups. It also has revision control, a WYSIWYG editor, a plugin API that has spawned over 300 extensions, RSS/Atom feeds, e-mail notification, dynamic content generation, a built-in database, a skinnable user interface, an SQL-like query language to embed reports in wiki pages, support for internationalisation, etc.
