Joomla is a very popular open source CMS built on a model– view–controller Web application framework, which enables users to build websites and powerful online applications that are easy to use and are extensible. Joomla is used to build e-commerce and online reservations portals, small business websites, personal or family home pages, community-based portals, school and church websites, corporate Intranets and extranets, corporate or non-profit websites, online magazines, newspapers and publications, government applications, etc. Some of its famous users are MTV Networks’ Quizilla (a social networking platform), Harvard University, Citibank, PlayShakespeare.com, etc.
For installing Joomla 3.x, the requirements are as follows: PHP (Magic Quotes GPC off) 5.4 +, databases such as MySQL (InnoDB support required) 5.1 +, MSSQL 10.50.1600.1+ and PostgreSQL 8.3.18 +; and Web servers such as Apache (with mod_mysql, mod_xml, and mod_zlib) 2.x +, Nginx 1.1 and Microsoft IIS 7.
