BackBox Linux’s latest version out with a few major improvements
A new version has been announced for BackBox Linux, which is based on Ubuntu 14.04.1 LTS. This distro is used for penetration testing and security assessments. The latest version is now available for further upgrades and testing.
The latest 4.x branch of BackBox Linux was made available in October and now the first update has been released. Developers have made a few improvements to it, as well as to the Linux kernel and core packages. There are not many distros that can perform penetration testing properly, other than Kali, DEFT and BackTrack.
Apart from penetration tests and security assessments, the BackBox distro also integrates a user-friendly desktop environment, based on Xfce. As mentioned by the developers on the official website, “The BackBox team is pleased to announce the updated release of BackBox Linux, version 4.1! This release includes features such as Linux Kernel 3.13, EFI mode, Anonymous mode, an LVM + Disk encryption installer, privacy additions and armhf Debian packages.”
This distribution uses Ubuntu 14.04.1 as its base currently, and the installer has LVM and ‘full disk encryption’ options. Custom actions have been added to the file manager, Thunar, and the Anonymous mode has been refined to increase its efficiency. ARM architecture is also now supported and a few hacking tools have been added.
