Dr Vijay Bhatkar concerned about India’s data hosted abroad

-

Padma Bhushan award winner, Dr Vijay Bhatkar, has expressed his concerns about national security because of the vast volumes of data generated by Indian users of social media on platforms being hosted outside the country. One of the key brains behind building India’s supercomputer ‘Param’ expressed this during his visit to the data centre facility of ESDS Software Solution at Nasik. Dr Bhatkar was felicitated by Piyush Somani, CEO, ESDS, for being awarded the Padma Bhushan. “India’s data lying out of India raises a concern about India’s security more than any other issue related to data,” he said during his felicitation speech.

This visit also witnessed discussions between him and the staff of ESDS about the impact of the Internet of Things (IoT) and a range of other topics.

“India’s data should be brought back to India and a rule must be made to this effect, considering the country’s security. Other countries have done this already. Bringing India’s data back to India, clubbed with cloud hosting and the adoption of IoT, can create as many as 20 million jobs. It would certainly help India to soon become a super power,” said Dr Bhatkar. He also coined a new slogan— ‘Innovative in India and Internationalise (I3)’.

Dr Bhatkar also planted a sandalwood sapling at the ESDS data centre premises, sharing the message to “…live in harmony with nature and spread India’s fragrance worldwide.” Almost a year ago, Dr Bhatkar had launched ESDS’ eMagic data centre management application, and a crossplatform disaster recovery service.
