Find­ing files and di­rec­to­ries

Here are two com­mands, which find files and di­rec­to­ries that are not read­able by all users. Such a search ca­pa­bil­ity is very handy while ad­min­is­ter­ing Web servers. To find such files, type:

…where the de­vice name is the full path to your USB de­vice in the /dev di­rec­tory. It is usu­ally /dev/ sdb1, /dev/sdc1, etc, and can be found by is­su­ing an ls com­mand in the /dev di­rec­tory. Do be care­ful about the de­vice name, as you can lose data if it’s wrongly used.
