LibreOffice Online launched for ownCloud Server
CODE (Collabora Online Development Edition) is a tool designed to give its users a virtual machine. The tool is based on the LibreOffice Online project and the open source ownCloud Server selfhosting cloud storage solution. The companies made a joint announcement regarding the initial preview of CODE. This collaboration will permit users to edit office documents like Word, spreadsheets, and presentations through the Web-based interface of ownCloud. “LibreOffice Online is what the name suggests - an online version of the wellknown LibreOffice suite of productivity apps. ‘Collabora and LibreOffice Online’ integrated into ownCloud Server brings these powerful productivity features to ownCloud users. No other cloud technology offers the quality of rendering that LibreOffice brings to the browser, and this development edition already offers a wide range of features, with more to come,” said the Collabora representatives.
Jos Poortvliet, ownCloud community manager, informed Softpedia that Collabora had employed a team of developers for the LibreOnline project to include more features into it, and also to employ LibreOffice Online for ownCloud on a large scale.
Speculation is on about whether the LibreOnline tool may soon vanish as CODE gets released.
