What will KDE Plasma 5.6 feature?

-

One of the developers of the KDE Plasma 5.6 release has stated that the new release will have a lot more user-friendliness, as it will not have any functionality that inhibits users from accomplishing their daily goals.

The new version is going to be borrowing the Unity API from Canonical’s Ubuntu Linux OS to implement support for app notifications in the Task Manager. For instance, the download progress will be displayed in the Chromium browser. However, the KDE developers will be extending the functions of several of the applications in its software suite—for instance, Dolphin, for displaying the file transfer progress in the Task Manager.

It will also be supported by other third party apps which include Telegram or Mozilla Thunderbird. KDE Plasma 5.6 is also going to display media controls for Task Manager, permitting its users to manage different multimedia applications readily just with a single click of a mouse. If there is the media player application running at the back end and one is surfing the Internet using Firefox, they will be able to control the app by simply moving over its Task Manager entry. By doing this, a live thumbnail will come up with support for medial controls. It also has support for several media players.

KDE Plasma 5.6 is scheduled for release by March 22, 2016.
