Ubuntu 12.04 LTS gets ma­jor ker­nel up­date

Canon­i­cal has re­leased a ma­jor new ker­nel up­date for Ubuntu 12.04 LTS (Pre­cise Pan­golin) op­er­at­ing sys­tem. The new up­date patches 19 vul­ner­a­bil­i­ties within the Linux ker­nel of Ubuntu’s Pre­cise Pan­golin build.

Ubuntu Se­cu­rity No­tice USB2967-1 re­veals the new ker­nel up­date. It comes un­der ver­sion lin­ux­im­age-3.2.0-102 (3.2.0-102.142) and is de­signed for hard­ware ar­chi­tec­tures such as 64-bit, 32bit, Pow­erPC (PPC) and ARM HighBank as well as ARM OMAP.

Although the Ubuntu 12.04 LTS was orig­i­nally re­leased in April 2012, Canon­i­cal keeps on sup­port­ing the Long Term Sup­port ver­sion. It was the first Ubuntu re­lease to re­ceive of­fi­cial sup­port for five years.
