Two historical fort cities in the state are all set to be included in Unesco's World Heritage City list Gwalior and Orchha in Madhya Pradesh have gained new recognitio­n in the Unesco World Heritage City list. Both the cities have been included under Unesco’s Urban Landscape City Programme, aimed at conserving and developing heritage properties. While Gwalior has been in the limelight for its historical forts and memorials, Orchha is renowned for its confluence of Rajput and Mughal architectu­ral styles.

Prominent cities like Varanasi, Jaipur, Bodh Gaya and Fatehpur Sikri have been a part of Unesco's World Heritage City list previously
