Google has launched two new initiatives to train and help SMBs capitalise on the digitisation wave faster.

It will provide free websites and web tools to small businesses in order to bolster their digital presence. Google has been looking to tap into the small and medium business market through its enterprise offerings such as Google for Work, Google Cloud and others. As more and more Indians come online, it is now trying to aggressively chase market share in the segment. In a joint study conducted by Google and KPMG on the “Impact of internet on digitization on SMBs in India”, it was found that 68% of the 51 million SMBs are offline. It further found that digitization of SMBs could help increase their contribution to India’s GDP by 10% points, taking it up to 46-48% by 2020.
