Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication. Someone said this and it seems to be true, but it’s a lot of effort. When we are speaking about workflows, we need to assume it is in the context of white-collared workers.

Needs of Large Organizations

The challenges for SMEs/SMBs and large enterprises are slightly different. An SME/SMB is usually a founder/owner led business where a few people are wearing multiple hats. The processes can and do change very rapidly and focus is more on getting the job done. The CV of a candidate, for example, who got rejected, does not hold any value for such a business.

For large enterprises, especially because of the size, the processes and workflows take supremacy and any exceptions need to pass through various channels. These processes are an outcome of an acquired knowledge which must have come during the evolution of the business.

Large organizations have either built custom tools or have captures these processes in files. Usually, a document trail, in the form of hard/soft copies and uploads onto complicated systems goes along with this. These are what we call legacy systems. And via blockchain, we can make these records uneditable. But that’s a separate discussion. Coming back to the topic, it is very tough to change these processes which is intentionally so.

For example, just imagine if you had to change the onboarding process of a customer opening a new bank account. The change would have to be edited, first in the system - technology impact. Then the personal bankers across 2000+ branches across the country, who speak various languages, would have to be updated and trained.

For SMEs/SMBs, the paper trail is usually from a compliance/law perspective and not so useful from a process perspective because of the reasons stated above.

Both SMEs/SMBs and large enterprises need tools to setup, share, implement and track these processes. They are wary of new technology. And they can’t stop the show, which implies that the wings of the aircraft need to be changed while it’s nose- diving towards a crash.

An Ideal System

An ideal system is one which can consume any process, automate any workflow and integrate itself with the existing systems while it slowly grows to accumulate all processes of an organization. It allows for other tools to be integrated which leaves immense flexibility for growth and in fact, helps organizations embrace new technology really fast. It is secure. And the processes can be created, edited and implemented, all as fast as you can type.

For example, what if to change the onboarding process for new clients, all you needed to do was just edit the process in one place;and immediately, it started reflecting in all of the 2000+ branches across the country? No technology changes, no cumbersome integrations or implementations and as it is part of the main application, the usage is instantaneous and requires no training. That’s the dream and it’s already here!

Both SMEs/SMBs and large enterprises need tools to setup, share, implement and track these processes. They are wary of new technology. And they can’t stop the show, which implies that the wings of the aircraft need to be changed while it’s nose-diving towards a crash.
