- — Ashok Pandey ashokpa@cybermedia.co.in

Hybrid smartwatches are getting more traction nowadays, due to its design, longer battery life, ruggedness, and obviously smart features. Gekko announced its new hybrid smartphone GX1 that looks trendy, yet it’s rugged. It provides various statics and flashes notifications from your connected smartphone. We have used it for more than three months and here what we think about it.

Trendy design

We got an electric blue colour variant for review, the watch has a large diameter with LED-backlit display. It comes with a decent rubber strap with a stainless steel plate that feels durable. The diameter of the watch is about 1.1-inch incorporating various notifications on the top and activity tracker on the bottom along with large numeric time fonts at the centre.

GX1 comes with four buttons, two each side. The left side buttons can be used to turn on light when the dark and second button to select mode. The right side buttons are to start and reset. The LED display is enclosed inside a rugged body that feels like rubber.

The hybrid watch is about 80 grams in weight which is fine, neither light nor heavy. Overall, it looks cool and trendy, however, a few might find it showy. We find it amazing to wear with a solid build.

Performance

Gekko GX1 hybrid smartwatch has various tracking features including Barometer, Altitude Measure, Temperature, UV Index Data, Air pressure, etc. Majorly we track our steps, calorie burnt, walked distance, etc. and honestly we also tracked those activities.

The watch accurately measures steps, distance and calories burnt, useful to track your health and achieve your daily goals. Rest of the features can be useful for some of the people. Also, it has remote camera control that comes handy when you are taking selfies.

GX1 also notifies you for calls and messages you receive, the watch vibrates for a second with beep sound and then a tiny icon blinks for call or message respectively. However, to answer the call or read the message you need to use the smartphone only.

To utilise all the features of smartphone you can download app named FundoBracelet available on both Android and iOS. App has intuitive interface providing details for your step-count, calories burnt, sleep tracking, etc. All the features work perfectly, except sleep tracking, in our last few months of usage, it was accurate for quite a few nights.

The watch has an IP68 rating meaning tough to handle accidental fall and water.

Battery life

It has a powerful 3 volts

lithium battery that has the life of up to 1 year, however, with us, it survived for 6 months, utilising all the feature and Bluetooth connectivity. With moderate usage, it might survive for a year or so. In terms of battery life, a few might find it useful as you need to replace the battery once in a year, no need to charge on a daily basis. However a few might prefer a rechargeable battery.

Bottomline: The trendy Sanzar Gekko GX1 is packed with numerous features and great battery life. It tracks step counts, calories burnt, etc. accurately plus display notification of call and messages. At the price of 4k, GX1 is a good hybrid smartwatch to buy.
