Asia is a key region for production of the world’s garments. It is also home to several countries – Bangladesh, Cambodia, China, India, Indonesia, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Vietnam – all of which are highly integrated into global supply chains within the garment sector. Other nations to follow are Indonesia and Cambodia. Indonesia has maintained a relatively steady market share over the last two decades. Cambodia’s garment industry was worth US$ 6.2 billion in 2015 (UNCTAD 2017).
In 2015, these eight countries produced over half the world’s garments for export, according to a 2017 report by United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD).
