I don’t’ think India has any benefit from this trade war as China and India are two entirely different entities. India also cannot compete with China. India can only grow if they get more organised. The yarn prices are on hike, labour cost is increasing and with these problems nothing can grow hence I don’t think that the apparel export industry will be able to grow at a good rate. The biggest challenge is that India never had the chance to grab business for bulk orders. The competition is very high and thus all the orders are being diverted to countries where there is cheap labour. But the Govt. needs to support its exporters. The sourcing will grow only if the buying houses do their R&D properly. Product categories like handlooms, men’s wear, both in knits and woven are really growing and gaining good demand from India.
