Canada: Canadian fashion retailer Simons brings Marimekko designs home
Finland-based fashion company Marimekko has partnered with La Maison Simons (Canada) for the launch of the latter’s pop-up stores. The new stores, based in Ontario (2) and Quebec City (1), have Marimekko’s latest fashion assortments on display. The interiors aim to reflect Marimekko’s enduring and functional aesthetics, featuring greenery and clean range alongside contemporary home decor and accessories collections from the brand’s Fall/winter 2018-19 season. Seeing the interest in prints, the new stores in Canada will house a selection of archive patterns and contemporary designs comprising Marimekko’s iconic prints from the ‘50s and ‘60s era — Unikko (poppy) floral print on dresses, bags and scarves; and striped unisex Jokapoika Piccolo prints. Interestingly, while these pop-ups will open through holidays, the fashion lines will be updated every 30 days to offer something new each month to the fashion-conscious consumers of Canada.
The fashion retail collaboration will allow Marimekko to expand its offline presence. Notably, the brand is already present in over 40 nations world over. It recently opened its flagship store in Tokyo (Japan).
However, it remains to be seen how well Marimekko’s designs will be accepted at Simon’s pop-ups.
