World’s first-of-its-kind floating NPP in Russia

A ceremony of the first sheet pile diving into the foundation of coastal infrastructure for the one-of-akind floating nuclear heat and power plant (FNHPP) ‘Lomonosov’ took part in Pevek (Chukotka autonomous region), most northern city in Russia. The FNHPP is to be commissioned by 2019 and will later be the world’s most northern NPP. Currently, Bilibino NPP, also in Chukotka, is the most northern NPP in the world. A number of countries have evinced interest in the project and the Russian floating NPP will be the focus of global attention. The potential of floating plants of water distillation is attractive for the Middle East countries. The FNHPP is conservatively loaded, making nuclear reactors invulnerable to tsunamis and other natural disasters.
