NHPC inks agree­ment for `14,000 Cr tawang Plants

In­dia’s premier hy­dropower gen­er­a­tion com­pany NHPC Lim­ited has signed a power pur­chase agree­ment (PPA) with the gov­ern­ment of Mi­zo­ram for sup­ply of 1,400 megawatt for a pe­riod of 35 years.

Two projects – Tawang I and Tawang II – will sup­ply 600 mw and 800 mw re­spec­tively to Mi­zo­ram, when ready. “PPA in re­spect of up­com­ing projects Tawang-i and Tawang-ii HE Project, Arunachal Pradesh has been signed on De­cem­ber 29, 2016 with Power & Elec­tric­ity Depart­ment, gov­ern­ment of Mi­zo­ram for a pe­riod of 35 years from the date of com­mer­cial op­er­a­tion (COD) of the project,” men­tioned a BSE fil­ing.

Presently, both the projects are await­ing clear­ances to com­mence con­struc­tion for the hy­dropower plants. Ac­cord­ing to May 2016 price lev­els, the es­ti­mated cost for Tawang Hy­dro­elec­tric Project or Tawang-i is at Rs 6,131.69 crore. It will take 78 months for to be com­pleted. For Tawang-ii, the es­ti­mated cost as per Septem­ber 2015 price level is at Rs 7,829.08 crore.
