Rashtrapati Bhavan extends SmartGram initiative
The Rashtrapati Bhavan secretariat has extended its SmartGram initiative to 100 villages in the vicinity of the initially selected five village of Haryana. In order to sensitise the selected stakeholders on expansion of the initiative, a high level meeting chaired by Secretary to the President, Omita Paul was organised at Rashtrapati Bhavan. The meeting was attended by the people’s representatives from those 100 villages.
The aim of the meeting was to discuss plans for implementation of various programmes in these villages. The initiative was inaugurated for five villages of Haryana - Tajnagar, Dhaula, Alipur, Harchandpur and Rojka Meo - by the President of India, Pranab Mukherjee on July 2, 2016.
A large number of projects have been undertaken in the initially selected five villages of Haryana under the SmartGram initiative in the fields of agriculture, skill development, energy, education, healthcare, employment generation, developing entrepreneurship among various other activities. These initiatives have generated good enthusiasm in the nearby areas. Therefore, the SmartGram initiative was extended to 95 more villages in the vicinity of the earlier selected five villages.
Some of the other initiatives which are undertaken under SmartGram are SmartGram Training Centre, Gram Sachivalaya, Wellness Centre, Water ATM, Women’s Training by NIFTEM among others.
