I’m 22 and in pretty good shape, but feel my arms could do with some ton­ing. What would you rec­om­mend?

Begin with planks. Also do a few rep­e­ti­tions of bhu­jan­gasana and pawan­muk­tasana. Plus, flex your bi­ceps with empty hands at reg­u­lar in­ter­vals to achieve slen­der arms.

I’m over­weight. How­ever, I love eat­ing pota­toes even though I know they’re not good for me. How do I con­trol my crav­ings?

When pre­par­ing your meal, com­bine pota­toes with a lot of other veg­eta­bles to cre­ate a bal­ance. Re­duce the quan­tity of pota­toes by 1/4 and in­crease the quan­tity of other veg­gies. Con­sum­ing a con­sis­tent amount of ce­re­als along with pota­toes will work very well. Try to eat din­ner early so that the food di­gests prop­erly. My fa­ther re­cently had a check-up which re­vealed high choles­terol lev­els. I’m wor­ried be­cause he has com­pletely ig­nored the doc­tor’s ad­vice to ex­er­cise reg­u­larly. Rather than nag­ging him to do so, I want to show him that ex­er­cise doesn’t have to be a chore and help him find the mo­ti­va­tion to do it on his own. Any sug­ges­tions?

I sug­gest he walks for about ½ km at nor­mal speed. He can also try yoga like the co­bra pose and then move into the mountain po­si­tion. He should eat din­ner by 7 p.m, and his diet should in­clude lots of salad, fruits, dry fruits and whole­some snacks like jowar-ba­jra chikki and khakra.
