created a global impact when she graced the cover of Sports Illustrated’s swimsuit edition. ‘Every figure is a perfect figure,’ is her belief.
As a flagbearer for the curvy figure in the fashion industry, Ashley Graham is set to break the typical stereotype of having a reed-slim body. She has influenced many body positivity movements and has brought a remarkable change in the fashion industry.
The model’s Instagram feed is proof of her body confidence as she gracefully poses in bikinis. “I’m giving curvy women a seat at a table that we’ve never been invited to before
“I don’t work out to lose weight or my curves, because I love the skin I’m in.”
- a table with high-end fashion people who have never considered us beautiful,” she avers. Her basic approach towards her body image is a breath of fresh air!
Ashley is rousing women to love themselves, their bodies, and compelling society to change its standards of beauty. She has her fair share of haters, and to those who trolled her workout video on social media, she had a stout message: “I don’t work out to lose weight or my curves, because I love the skin I’m in.”
The model has time and again proved that she is a force to reckon with. “The fashion industry may persist to label me as ‘plus-size,’ but I like to think of it as ‘my size’, she asserts.
Growing up, her mother helped inculcate a body positive image in young Ashley and this impacted her deeply, leading her to believe that she was perfect.
Ashley is passionate about swimwear; she wants every woman, no matter her size, to be able to enjoy swimwear. The model designed a line of swimwear for a fashion retail brand, Addition Elle. For the 2018 resort wear collection, they launched a campaign ‘Power of the Journey’ which shows Ashley and her mother Linda Graham, 53, donning bikinis. They wanted to spread a strong message of body acceptance in the minds of women themselves, something that’s much needed in today’s times of unrealistic body imaging and body shaming. Attagirl, Ashley!
