VERDICT
sharpness. Since the RF lenses are built for R-series bodies, we tested the lens with all lens correction features turned on unless otherwise speci ied. We did not notice any lare or chromatic aberration in strong against-the-light situations even at wide-open aperture at 70 mm.
The lens did not produce any distortion. Some darkening of corners that was seen at f/2.8 was corrected well by the peripheral illumination feature in the body. The lens produced soft and pleasing bokeh. Canon claims a 5-stop shutter speed advantage for the image stabilisation system, and we could verify the same in our tests, both at 70 mm and 200 mm focal lengths.
Value for Money
The RF 70-200 mm f/2.8 lens retails at an MRP of Rs. 231,995. This is around half-a-lakh more than the EF 70-200 mm f/2.8L IS USM. With the expensive R-series bodies, this could cause a signi icant dent in your wallet. We would consider this expensive unless Canon decides to bring the cost of ownership of the R-series cameras further down. | SP
The new RF 70-200 mm f/2.8L IS USM is a and street photographers, offering blazing fast AF and sharp results. The light and compact design leaves more room in your kit bag for an additional lens or a second body compared to similar lenses for D-SLRs. We wish it were a little less expensive.
