Insta 360 One X2

- Sujith Gopinath

This device makes shooting 360-degree photos and videos a breeze

A360-degree camera offers unlimited artistic possibilities in the hands of a creative person. There are a few options for 360-degree cameras such as the Ricoh Theta and GoPro Max. The Insta 360 One X2 combines the slim pro ile of the Theta with advanced features of the Max.

Design & Build Quality

The Insta 360 One X2 has a sturdy polycarbonate body with a matte inish and rubber shock absorbent lining around the sides. The camera uses a large 1630 mAh removable battery. It uses a USB Type-C port for charging. Both the battery chamber and USB port have seals and indicators to ensure that it is protected from water ingress. The device is waterproof up to ive metres of depth.

Key Features

The One X2 device has a power button on the one side and a record button on the front below the circular touch screen. The device houses two 7.2 mm equivalent lenses with f/2.0 apertures. Still images can be captured in Raw (DNG) or JPEG format while videos can be recorded in MP4 or INSV formats. The device records 360-degree footage at 5.7K. It offers FlowState image stabilisation and Steady Cam Mode that keep images and footages steady. The device features four microphones for 360-degree audio. The camera offers 150-degree and panorama options also for still images. It also features horizon lock feature, which keeps the horizon levelled in your footages. The X2 can be paired with an iOS or Android smartphone with the Insta 360 One R app. The device uses a microSD card for storage.

The Insta One R app connects with the camera quite easily and the data transfer also seemed fast. The app allows you to edit the images and footages seamlessly and offers several creative presets for editing your footages in the form of stories. The Insta 360 One X2 features voice control and supports English and Chinese languages. The camera can recognise most accents and the voice controls can be accessed from the settings menu.

Ergonomics

The camera features a standard tripod receptacle. The company has accessories made for this device including an invisible sel ie stick, which does not show up in the 360-degree images. The Insta 360 One X2 may not quite be the action camera that can be mounted on a vehicle and driven around on an adventure trip. However, with accessories like the utility frame (sold separately), you can mount it on any surface.

Performance

The Insta 360 One X2 performed very well in our tests. The interface is easy to navigate and the touch screen is quite responsive. The app provides all the options required for you to edit your stills and videos creatively. You can download these to your phone’s memory or export it to another app. Still images were rendered with good contrast and natural-looking colours. FlowState image stabilisation worked like a charm with videos.

Value for Money

The Insta 360 One X2 camera retails at an MRP of 49,990. This could be slightly on the higher side for a camera built for a custom purpose.
