With a 108MP camera, this smartphone deserves a closer look

Realme has unveiled their 8-series and the 8 Pro features a camera with a massive 108MP resolution. This under-20k camera offers advanced features that are still alien on most other phones.

Design & Build Quality

The Realme 8 Pro is quite light and thin at 176 g and 8.1 mm. Realme has used AG-crystal process for the polycarbonate back cover for a granular and luorescent inish along with a bold glossy Dare to Leap’ slogan that literally screams from the back surface. The device is available in In inite Blue and In inite Black colours and comes in two variants with 6GB or 8GB RAM and 128GB internal memory. The phone has three dedicated card slots accepting two Nano SIM and one micro SD card up to 256GB.

Key Features

The Realme 8 Pro uses Realme UI 2.0 based on Android 11, a responsive and clean UI. The device includes features like Dual mode music sharing, Realme share, Deepsea Privacy Plan and Payment shield.

The phone features an 8nm Qualcomm Snapdragon 720G SoC. The processor includes a Kryo 465 CPU with two highperformance Cortex-A76 cores clocked at up to 2.3 GHz and six high-ef iciency Cortex-A55 cores clocked at up to

1.8 GHz. It is supported by an Adreno 618 GPU. The device features a 6.4-inch Full HD Super AMOLED full-screen display with in-display ingerprint sensor. The phone also features an always-on display. The screen offers a touch sampling rate of 180Hz. The device offers some good gaming capabilities as well. The phone carries a Hi-Res Audio certi ication.

Coming to the feature that is most talked about in this device, the Realme 8 Pro is equipped with a 108MP quad camera system, which is the highest pixel count in smartphone industry. This uses a Samsung HM2 ISOCELL sensor, providing dimensions of up to 12000 x 9000 pixels. It supports up to 4K video recording at 30 fps. The sensor also supports nine-inone pixel binning to provide noise-free images in low light. The four cameras include, apart from the 108MP main camera, an 8MP ultra wide-angle lens, a 2MP Black and White Portrait lens (depth camera) and a 2MP macro lens.

The Realme 8 Pro is powered by a 4500mAh battery, which easily lasts for more that two days in normal use. The bundled 50W charger tops up the battery in just over 45 minutes.

Ergonomics

The Realme 8 Pro felt quite comfortable with the textured back and light weight. Both the ingerprint and face unlock features proved responsive and unlocked the phone in an instant. The UI was also responsive, but with all those advanced features available, the 60 Hz refresh rate appeared slightly less than adequate for gaming.

Performance

The 8 Pro’s cameras rendered images with colours true to the original and the images were quite sharp. Noise was controlled well and the videos were

smooth. The main camera also offers features like Super Nightscape, Starry sky, ltra acro, ual ie i eo, Time-lapse, Starry Time-lapse video and Tilt-shift modes. Portraits offer smooth and natural-looking bokeh. The front camera is a 16MP module, which also comes with AI Beauty, Portrait and Super Nightscape modes.

The sound output was quite impressive for a device at this price range. The battery lasted for two days on moderate use on a single charge.

Value for Money

The Realme 8 Pro retails at an MRP of Rs. 17,999. At this price, with all the features that are on offer, the device is certainly good value for money.
