Tamron Announces Ultra-Telephoto Zoom Lens

Tamron has announced the launch of the 150-500 mm f/5-6.7 Di III VC VXD (Model A057), an ultra-telephoto zoom lens for Sony E-mount full-frame mirrorless cameras.

The lens is 209.6 mm long with a maximum diameter of 93 mm. When extended to the 500 mm telephoto end, the lens measures 283 mm. The lens zooms from 150 mm to 500 mm by rotating the zoom ring through an arc of 75°.

The optical construction features 25 elements in 16 groups. The use of special lens elements including one XLD (eXtra Low Dispersion), five LD (Low Dispersion), and two Hybrid Aspherical lens elements controls aberrations including axial chromatic aberrations. It features a VXD linear motor focus mechanism for high-speed and highprecision movement. Additionally, the linear motor also reduces drive noise and vibrations produced during focussing. It is equipped with Tamron’s VC mechanism that features a VC mode selection switch with three settings (Mode 1: Standard, Mode 2: Exclusively for Panning, and Mode 3: Framing Priority).

The MOD is 0.6 m at the 150 mm end and 1.8 m at the 500 mm telephoto end. The maximum magnification ratio at 150 mm is at 1:3.1.

Additional features include Arca-Swiss compatible tripod mount with strap attachment holes included, lens hood with flexible, protective front portion, new switch design for improved operability, Flex zoom lock mechanism, BBAR-G2 Coating for minimised ghosting and flare along with moisture-resistant construction and fluorine coating.

The lens is scheduled to launch in June 10, 2021 but could be postponed owing to the ongoing pandemic situation.

Panasonic has announced the personnel change of one of the members of Board of Directors effective June 24, 2021. The personnel change includes the resignation of Yuko Kawamoto (member of Board of Directors) and the appointment of Shinobu Matsui as a member of the Board of Directors.

This change will be made official at the Ordinary General Meeting of Shareholders and the subsequent Board of Directors’ meeting to be held on June 24, 2021.
