Canon Announces New Lenses for EOS R Cameras

-

Canon has announced the launch of the RF 100-400 mm f/5.6-8 IS USM and RF 16 mm f/2.8 STM lenses. Both lenses feature the large diameter and short back focus of the RF mount of the EOS R system.

The RF 100-400 mm f/5.68 IS USM offers telephoto capability of up to 400 mm zoom while reportedly, retaining its compactness at less than 170 mm in length. It weighs approximately 635 g, making it lighter than the RF 24-105 mm f/4L IS USM. It is comparable in size to the EF 70-300 mm f/4.5-5.6 IS II USM but features an additional 100 mm to the telephoto end of the focal length. With Nano USM, the lens enables quick and smooth focussing throughout the entire zoom range. It is also compatible with the Extender RF1.4x/2x, which increases focal length to 1.4x/2x. With a minimum focussing distance of 1.05 m (at 400 mm), a maximum magnification of 0.41x can be achieved. The lens comes with a native 5.5 stops image stabilisation and when paired with a camera that has In-Body Image Stabilisation, the IS effectiveness reportedly goes up to 6 stops. The RF 16 mm f/2.8 STM features an ultracompact design. It measures 40.2 mm tall and weighs approximately 165 g. Canon reports that the distortion effect of the ultra-wide-angle lens, when the user gets closer to a subject (such as animals and children), creates a warped look. The ultra-wide angle of the RF 16 mm f/2.8 STM covers a 110-degree diagonal field of view.

Both Canon RF 100-400 mm and Canon RF 16 mm are expected to be available for sale by October and will be priced at INR 58,995/- and INR 26,995/- respectively.
