Irix Unfurls Full-frame Cine Lens

Irix has introduced the new fullframe 21 mm t/1.5 cine lens. The new lens is reportedly designed for shooting with the newest cameras on the market including Ultra HD 8K+ cinema cameras with full-frame, Super 35 and other sensors. The optical design of the lens includes 4 Extralow Dispersion glass elements, 4 High Reflective elements and 2 Aspherical lenses. There are a total of 15 elements in 11 groups. An image circle of 43.3 mm reportedly, covers every sensor size from full-frame 35 down to 1/3” sensors. It features a circular, 11-blade iris constructi­on, an aperture range of t/1.5 to t/16 and a minimum focussing distance of 30 cm. The lens has a front size of 95 mm and geared Mod 0.8 M rings. The focus ring of the lens features a 180 degree angle of rotation and 75 degrees for the aperture ring. The lens is resistant to rain, sand, snow or dust and engraved markings on the lens have been filled with UVreactive paint for filming in difficult lighting conditions.

The housing of the new lens is made up of a resistant aluminium-magnesium alloy, resulting in a body weight of 1.1 kg. It comes with a lens support foot that can be attached to the lower or upper part of the lens. Other key features include low focus breathing and compatibil­ity with other Irix lenses. The lens will be available in 7 industry mounts i.e. Canon EF, Canon RF, Sony E, Nikon Z, Olympus MFT/ Panasonic MFT and Arri PL-mount.

The new Irix Cine lens is currently available for pre-order across selected dealers and Irix’s official online Store. The prices are set at 1195 Euro (1295 Euro for PL Mount version) and USD 1195 USD (1295 for PL Mount version).
