Sony Announces Zoom Lens

-

Sony has announced the 67th lens in its mirrorless E-mount lineup with the FE 24-70 mm f/2.8 GM II (model SEL2470GM2).

The new lens’ redesigned optical path features five aspherical elements, including two high-precision XA (extreme aspherical) elements. The lens also includes two ED (extra-low dispersion) plus two Super ED glass elements. Combined with a new floating focus mechanism, the lens is reported to control chromatic aberration, astigmatism, distortion and coma.

It comes with Sony’s original Nano AR Coating II for a uniform antireflection coating on the lens surface and its optical design includes a newly developed 11-blade aperture unit. The lens features a minimum focussing distance of 0.21 metres at 24 mm and 0.30 metres at 70 mm, along with a maximum magnification of 0.32x.

The lens also features XD (extreme dynamic) Linear Motors, a floating focus mechanism, advanced lens control and supports up to 30 fps continuous shooting for stills and 4K 120p video recording with autofocus. It also includes Linear Response MF (manual focus), an aperture ring and a dedicated iris ring for click-less control.

It weighs 695 g and its length has been reduced by 16 mm, as compared to the previous G-Master model. Other features include a Zoom smoothness switch to adjust the zoom ring torque either tight or smooth, two customisable focus hold buttons, a new lens hood design with an opening to control circular polarising filters, the placement of the centre of gravity toward the mount, updated dust and moisture resistant design, rubber gaskets on the buttons and switches and a rubber ring to seal the lens mount. The front lens element also features a fluorine coating that repels water, oil and other contaminants.

The FE 24-70 mm f/2.8 GM II is available for purchase across all Sony Centers, Alpha Flagship stores, www.shopatsc.com portal and major electronic stores across India at a price of INR 1,99,990.
