Tamron’s Compact Offering for Sony
Tamron has announced the launch of the 20-40mm f/2.8 Di III VXD (Model A062), a fast-aperture standard zoom lens for Sony E-mount full-frame mirrorless cameras.
The 20-40mm is a new fast-aperture standard zoom lens that can be easily carried around for everyday shooting for both still images and video. Designed for Sony E-mount full-frame mirrorless cameras, the lens was created for extreme portability that is ideal for everyday use. Starting from 20mm at the wide-angle end and covering up to 40mm in the standard focal range, it is the smallest and lightest in its class, according to Tamron. The lens incorporates Tamron’s VXD (Voice-coil eXtreme-torque Drive), an AF drive system using the linear motor focus mechanism. The VXD boasts superior quietness and agile performance and achieves high-speed and high precision autofocus. The lens offers a minimum object distance of 0.17m and maximum magnification ratio 1:3.8 at the wide end.
The lens has a compact and lightweight design at 86.5mm and 365g. The compact and lightweight design offers excellent handling that is well balanced even when using with accessories like camera grips and gimbal stabilisers. The lens is constructed with 12 elements in 11 groups. With four LD (Low Dispersion), two GM (Glass Molded Aspherical) and one Hybrid Aspherical lens element, it boasts a generous arrangement of special lens elements that strike a balance between high image quality and compact size across the entire zoom range. The lens is threaded to accept 67mm filters, same as most other Tamron lenses for mirrorless cameras, and features moisture-resistant construction and fluorine coating.
The lens facilitates rapid zooming with a zoom ring rotation arc of just 65 degrees. It is compatible with Tamron Lens Utility software for focus ring function setting and firmware updates. Price is yet to be announced.
