Facebook Menlo Park Expansion
Frank Gehry and his firm Gehry Partners has completed a new addition at Facebook’s Menlo Park campus in Palo Alto, California, as part of the company’s expansion of its headquarters. Known as MPK 21, the new building is spread over 5,25,000 sq. ft. and is poised to achieve LEED Platinum certification.
MPK 21 is connected to the existing MPK 20 volume via a sunken garden space known as the Bowl. The fecund, sheltered outdoor workspace is outfitted with tiered seating. The new building is also punctuated with a sawtooth roof crafted to inject abundant natural light into the interior. The design is also equipped with numerous sustainability features including a water recycling system, photovoltaic rooftop solar panels, extensive daylighting, and a 3.6-acre rooftop garden. Punctuated with a series of art installations, a central main street provides access to five F&B outlets, while a central courtyard at the heart of the design is appointed with redwood trees. 54 SOCIETY INTERIORS OCTOBER 2018
