Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG) has introduced its design for WeGrow, the first school developed by co-working company WeWork in Chelsea, New York. WeWork has open-plan classroom, environment-inspired Montessori-driven educational methodology, serving children aged three to nine. The collaborative learning space is outfitted with high ceilings that are contextualized with highly elliptical objects designed to accommodate a range of expressive activities from yoga to dance to athletics. Curvaceous wooden reading cubbies also populate the space to complement light wooden floors heavily illuminated by natural light. The modular, fluid classroom is equipped with elements like a vertical farm, acoustic clouds, natural materials, and neutral tones to instill a sense of calm.
