Bjarke In­gels Group (BIG) has in­tro­duced its de­sign for WeGrow, the first school de­vel­oped by co-work­ing com­pany WeWork in Chelsea, New York. WeWork has open-plan class­room, en­vi­ron­ment-in­spired Montes­sori-driven ed­u­ca­tional method­ol­ogy, serv­ing chil­dren aged three to nine. The col­lab­o­ra­tive learn­ing space is out­fit­ted with high ceil­ings that are con­tex­tu­al­ized with highly el­lip­ti­cal ob­jects de­signed to ac­com­mo­date a range of ex­pres­sive ac­tiv­i­ties from yoga to dance to ath­let­ics. Cur­va­ceous wooden read­ing cub­bies also pop­u­late the space to com­ple­ment light wooden floors heav­ily il­lu­mi­nated by nat­u­ral light. The mod­u­lar, fluid class­room is equipped with el­e­ments like a ver­ti­cal farm, acous­tic clouds, nat­u­ral ma­te­ri­als, and neu­tral tones to in­still a sense of calm.
