WHEN A corporate head honcho approaching his 40s decides to trim his bulge, he starts running with the fervour of a young man and loses 20 kgs, from a hefty 92 kgs. shajan samuel, sr Vice President, MAAc, a marque brand of Aptech ltd, has done just that. he is an ultra runner and has run across 27 cities in india and singapore recently. he has also qualified for the Berlin Full Marathon in september 2018. in April 2018, he completed his first 100 miler (161 km), running for 36 hours without two nights of sleep. discipline, hard work, grit and healthy eating habits not only helped him reduce 20 kgs, but also bought an innate optimism in him that anything can be conquered once we set our mind on it. “our minds can be so powerful, that it can subvert the body. There is a direct relation between our mind and what we can accomplish in life,” says samuel, who often uses the analogy of ‘ultra’ to demonstrate the power of the mind while delivering sessions to the youth. his goal is to complete the 217 km Badwater run, also called as death Valley in california. what with temperatures hovering around 54 degrees celsius. From handling a company worth 50 crores to attempting the herculean effort of running non-stop for days is what gives sheer joy to this fitness guru. clearly, here’s someone who loves ruling his body with a strong mind.
