WHEN A cor­po­rate head hon­cho ap­proach­ing his 40s de­cides to trim his bulge, he starts run­ning with the fer­vour of a young man and loses 20 kgs, from a hefty 92 kgs. sha­jan sa­muel, sr Vice Pres­i­dent, MAAc, a marque brand of Aptech ltd, has done just that. he is an ul­tra run­ner and has run across 27 cities in in­dia and sin­ga­pore re­cently. he has also qual­i­fied for the Berlin Full Marathon in septem­ber 2018. in April 2018, he com­pleted his first 100 miler (161 km), run­ning for 36 hours with­out two nights of sleep. dis­ci­pline, hard work, grit and healthy eat­ing habits not only helped him re­duce 20 kgs, but also bought an in­nate op­ti­mism in him that any­thing can be con­quered once we set our mind on it. “our minds can be so pow­er­ful, that it can sub­vert the body. There is a di­rect re­la­tion be­tween our mind and what we can ac­com­plish in life,” says sa­muel, who of­ten uses the anal­ogy of ‘ul­tra’ to demon­strate the power of the mind while de­liv­er­ing ses­sions to the youth. his goal is to com­plete the 217 km Bad­wa­ter run, also called as death Val­ley in cal­i­for­nia. what with tem­per­a­tures hov­er­ing around 54 de­grees cel­sius. From han­dling a com­pany worth 50 crores to at­tempt­ing the her­culean ef­fort of run­ning non-stop for days is what gives sheer joy to this fit­ness guru. clearly, here’s some­one who loves rul­ing his body with a strong mind.
