Be it summers or winters, and in case of Mumbai, monsoon, Mediterranean food fits the bill easily. Not so heavy on spice and neither light on taste, the region offers some of the tastiest recipes that the world has witnessed. Bayroute explores this uncharted territory quite smoothly and brings to us food from Egypt, Turkey, Lebanon, Greece, Morocco and other Mediterranean regions. With dramatic dimly lit interiors, subtle ornamentation, picturesque curtains and dainty cutlery, the place literally transports you off to the Middle East. For first timers, the menu would be a bit tricky but the dedicated staff, who are well-equipped and thoroughly researched on the cuisine will ease up the process. We started with some mocktails—Greek Goddess, made of Egyptian Greek yoghurt and berries—gives a smooth taste, and Rehyan—a pulpy orange squash with basil and mint leaves to sooth the city’s heat.
