Tanzania To Reconsider Tanzanite Export Ban
The Tanzania government agreed to review a threeyear-old restriction on the export of tanzanite stones weighing over one gram at a meeting held in Dar-esSalaam on September 24 and 25.
The meeting was attended by Dr. Daggubati Purandeswari, minister of state for commerce and industry, who is seen exchanging signed minutes of the third India Tanzania Joint Trade Committee with Dr. Abdallah O. Kigoda, the Tanzanian minister of trade and industry.
Also in attendance at the meeting were D.S. Dhesi (third from left), additional secretary, department of commerce, government of India, and Deb Nath Shaw (extreme left) the Indian High Commissioner to Tanzania.
Tanzania was requested to review its decision and during the meeting India was assured that its request shall be forwarded to the highest level.
