GJSCI Pro­motes Skill Devel­op­ment In Ker­ala

The Gem & Jew­ellery Skill Coun­cil of In­dia (GJSCI) is launch­ing the sec­tor skill devel­op­ment pro­gramme for the thriv­ing gem and jew­ellery in­dus­try in the south­ern state of Ker­ala, which has the largest per capita con­sump­tion of gold.

The GJSCI signed a mem­o­ran­dum of un­der­stand­ing with the Ad­di­tional Skill Ac­qui­si­tion Pro­gramme (ASAP) by the gov­ern­ment of Ker­ala to form the Ker­ala State Ad­vi­sory Com­mit­tee. The meet­ing was held on May 13 in Thris­sur with the col­lec­tor of Thris­sur, M.S. Jaya gracing the oc­ca­sion as the chief guest.

The Ad­vi­sory Com­mit­tee will aim to bring about changes in manufactur­ing, in­fuse fresh tal­ent in manufactur­ing and re­tail, and will also con­trib­ute to up­grad­ing skill lev­els of Ker­ala’s ar­ti­sans us­ing a mul­ti­pronged ap­proach. A first-of-its-kind in South In­dia, the pro­gramme will go a long way in strength­en­ing the sec­tor.

The GJSCI is the nodal body that is spear­head­ing this ef­fort along with part­ners in the in­dus­try in work­ing to­wards the end ob­jec­tive of de­vel­op­ing a skilled work­force as per the Na­tional Oc­cu­pa­tional Stan­dard.

Dr. Abra­ham, IAS, ad­di­tional chief sec­re­tary, gov­ern­ment of Ker­ala will be a part of the ad­vi­sory com­mit­tee along with noted rep­re­sen­ta­tives from Mal­abar Gold & Di­a­monds, Jew­ellery Man­u­fac­tur­ers As­so­ci­a­tion (Ker­ala), Pee­yar Ex­ports and VNM Jewel Craft Ltd. The GJSCI will be rep­re­sented by chair­man Prem Kothari, CEO Dharmesh So­dah, and gen­eral man­ager – South In­dia Ruban Hob­day.
