GJSCI & Maharashtra Government Sign MOU
The Gem & Jewellery Skill Council of India (GJSCI), the nodal entity for skill development of the Indian gem and jewellery industry, signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Maharashtra State Skill Development Society (MSSDS) on February 8.
Under the agreement, the two sides will explore collaborations for increasing employment in Maharashtra by facilitating a supply of skilled manpower in the desired sector, strengthening the training infrastructure related to the requisite skill sets, as well as by adopting new age technologies as per the demand of industries.
The MOU was signed by Prem Kumar Kothari, chairman, GJSCI and S.S. Sandhu, principal secretary, Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Department, in the presence of Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis.
As per the terms of the MOU, the GJSCI and MSSDS will also begin skill programmes for 12,000 young girls from tribal areas over the next two years. Sandhu (third from right). henceforth any skilling and improvement in the working conditions of the artisans in the gem and jewellery sector will be routed through the GJSCI.
