GJSCI & Maharashtr­a Govern­ment Sign MOU

The Gem & Jew­ellery Skill Coun­cil of In­dia (GJSCI), the nodal en­tity for skill de­vel­op­ment of the In­dian gem and jew­ellery in­dus­try, signed a mem­o­ran­dum of un­der­stand­ing (MOU) with the Maharashtr­a State Skill De­vel­op­ment So­ci­ety (MSSDS) on Fe­bru­ary 8.

Un­der the agree­ment, the two sides will ex­plore col­lab­o­ra­tions for in­creas­ing em­ploy­ment in Maharashtr­a by fa­cil­i­tat­ing a sup­ply of skilled man­power in the de­sired sec­tor, strength­en­ing the train­ing in­fra­struc­ture re­lated to the req­ui­site skill sets, as well as by adopt­ing new age tech­nolo­gies as per the de­mand of in­dus­tries.

The MOU was signed by Prem Ku­mar Kothari, chair­man, GJSCI and S.S. Sandhu, prin­ci­pal sec­re­tary, Skill De­vel­op­ment and En­trepreneur­ship Depart­ment, in the pres­ence of Maharashtr­a chief min­is­ter Deven­dra Fad­navis.

As per the terms of the MOU, the GJSCI and MSSDS will also be­gin skill pro­grammes for 12,000 young girls from tribal ar­eas over the next two years. It was agreed that Maharashtr­a chief min­is­ter Deven­dra Fad­navis (se­cond from right) with Prem Ku­mar Kothari (ex­treme right) and S.S. Sandhu (third from right). hence­forth any skilling and im­prove­ment in the work­ing con­di­tions of the ar­ti­sans in the gem and jew­ellery sec­tor will be routed through the GJSCI.
