Race to the top

In a high-octane thriller, Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur played out a dramatic 3-3 draw, featuring early goals, lead changes, and a last-minute equaliser.

Thrillers and Manchester City are becoming synonymous this season. After playing out a 4-4 draw with Chelsea in November, the English champion had to share points with Tottenham Hotspur after a 3-3 draw at the Etihad Stadium in their latest Premier League outing. The match had a bizarre start, with two goals coming in the first 10 minutes. Son Heung-min, assisted by Dejan Kulusevski, gave Tottenham an excellent start by scoring in the sixth minute, the goal coming off an excellent break by Ange Postecoglou’s men from a City corner.

After a flying start, Tottenham would have ideally liked to capitalise on the lead, but Son turned from hero to villain in just three minutes after putting the ball inside his own net for the City equaliser.

Jeremy Doku had a chance to give City a lead in the 21st minute, but his shot hit the underside of the bar before bouncing off the inside of the post.

City got the lead in the 31st minute, courtesy of a team effort, which was finished by Phil Foden, beating Guglielmo Vicario at his near post.

With the first half finishing at 2-1 in City’s favour, Tottenham stepped on the gas in the second half and grabbed the equaliser through Giovanni Lo Celso's curled effort in the 69th minute.

When Jack Grealish converted Haaland’s cross to make it 3-2 for City in the 81st minute, it looked like another late steal from Pep Guardiola’s men, but the North London outfit kept pressing, and their efforts bore fruit in the 90th minute. Brennan Johnson clipped a cross inside the box from left, and Kulusevski rose above Nathan Ake to find the target with a looping header.

Currently, Man City and Spurs are in third and fifth with 30 and 27 points, respectively.
