Martin Boyle — Australia

-

Having impressed in his first start in Australian colours recently, Martin Boyle is undoubtedly coach Graham Arnold’s prize catch ahead of the Asian Cup. The 25-year-old Scottish-born winger — who plays for Hibernian in the Scottish Premier League — surged into the limelight when he struck a fine brace in Australia’s 3-0 friendly win against Lebanon in November (Tim Cahill’s farewell match).

Boyle’s dazzling show and display of attacking intent earned him praise all around and has left fans and pundits wanting more.

Given that Aaron Mooy and Daniel Arzani are unlikely to feature in the Asian Cup owing to injuries, and that Cahill and Mile Jedinak have hung up their boots, Boyle’s arrival offers Arnold plenty of hope upfront as the Socceroos head to The Emirates with the ultimate aim of defending their title.
