Kamalpreet Kaur was adjudged Sportswoman of the Year (Track and Field) at the 2022 Sportstar Aces Awards, held at the Taj Mahal Hotel in Mumbai.

The discus thrower was the lone female Indian track and field athlete to qualify for the final in Tokyo. She was also one of the two automatic qualifiers for the finals of the women’s discus throw event, raising expectations of a medal. She, however, had to be content with a sixth-place finish in a rain-marred final.

Before her departure to Tokyo, Kamalpreet Kaur had broken the national record with a massive 66.59m effort — the seventhbest throw in the world in 2021 — in the Indian Grand Prix-4 in Patiala in June.

Her performance in the Olympic Games have raised expectations for international success. She is firmly focused on her preparations for the Asian Games, Commonwealth Games and the World Championships, training at NIS Patiala under her coach Rakhi Tyagi whom she credited for her success during the awards night.

She returned to competition for the first time since Tokyo Olympics at the Indian Grand Prix II in Thiruvananthapuram in March where she comfortably won the gold medal with an effort of 61.39m on her sixth and final attempt. She managed to cross the 60m mark in her third throw (60.45) which was also good enough for the gold.
