Honing skills and developing world-class athletes
The Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology has influenced the sporting culture in Odisha and the country for about a decade and currently hosts about 5000 active sportspersons.
The Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) in Bhubaneswar was adjudged the Best University for Promotion of Sports at the 2022 Sportstar Aces Awards, which was held in Mumbai.
Dr. Varun Suthra, Director Of International Relations, KIIT and Dr. Gaganendu Dash, Director General, Sports, accepted the award. “I would like to thank Sportstar and The Hindu Group for giving us this award. I would also like to thank Prof. Achyuta Samanta, founder KIIT, who is providing support and inspiration to all of us for organising competitions in the university. And our sincere gratitude to Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, who has turned the State into the sports capital of India,” Dr. Dash said.
Prof. Samanta, in a video message said, “I am happy and honoured to accept the Sportstar award for KIIT University for the promotion of sports with all humility and gratitude to all the jury members headed by respect Sunil Gavaskar ji . KIIT university has been promoting sportspersons since 2004. KIIT and Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences have the best sports infrastructure of the highest international standards. We have produced seven Olympians besides 5000 sports personnel. We also organised the Khelo India University Games in February 2020.”
Dutee Chand, Shivpal Singh, Srabani Nanda, CA Bhavani Devi, Amit Rohidas, Sunita Lakra and Lilima Minz are among the most prominent athletes who have honed their skill at the KIIT.
