Mixed feelings for Bangladesh in South Africa

-

The Bangladesh white-ball side created history on its tour of South Africa this fortnight. The Tigers beat the Proteas 2-1 in the three-match ODI series. Fast bowler Taskin Ahmed bagged the player of the series award for his eight scalps.

The touring party, led by the seasoned Tamim Iqbal, started the ODI series with a thrilling 3■-run win in Centurion that set the momentum.

Kagiso Rabada’s five-for in Johannesburg helped the Proteas level the series before the decider in Centurion. Taskin ran through the batters and picked up five wickets to restrict South Africa to 154. Skipper Iqbal led the charge with ■7 off ■2 balls as Bangladesh chased down the target with 23.3 overs remaining.

A few days later, in the first Test in Kingsmead, Durban, South Africa dismissed the touring side for 53 to win the contest by 220 runs. Spin bowler Keshav Maharaj returned 7/32 to choke the Tigers in their chase of 274.
