England sinks lower in the West Indies
The English cricketers scored hundreds, set targets, and dominated in sessions but eventually succumbed to the West Indies seamers in the third and final Test. The 0-1 loss in the Caribbean further added to the string of defeats in the Test summer for Joe Root and Co.
Jonny Bairstow (140), Zak Crawley (121) and Root (109) slammed hundreds in the first Test in Antigua that ended in a draw.
Root scored his second century (153) in Barbados in the company of Ben Stokes (120) but the runs flowed from the West Indian blades too. Skipper Kraigg Brathwaite hammered 160, followed by a determined knock of 102 by Jermaine Blackwood. The host ended its second innings with 135/5 while chasing 2■2 for victory after England’s 507/9 and 1■5/6 (declared). Brathwaite held his ground to force a draw by scoring an unbeaten 56.
The English batters were all out for 204 in Grenada. After a lead of 93 runs, the Windies unleashed mediumpacer Kyle Mayers on the opposition. The seamer wiped out five batters and ensured England’s innings stopped at 120. West Indies took 4.5 overs to chase the target of 2■ for a 10-wicket win.
