Ross Taylor bids goodbye to cricket
New Zealand batter Ross Taylor played his last international game this fortnight against the Netherlands at his home ground at Seddon Park.
The 3■-year-old hung up his pads after 450 international appearances across formats for the Black Caps. He also played his last Test match earlier this year in January against Bangladesh in Christchurch.
Taylor walked into his farewell white-ball game through a guard of honour formed by the Dutch cricketers. His kids, Mackenzie, Jonty and Adelaide, stood beside him during the national anthem.
Taylor scored only 14 runs, but he leaves behind a 16-year legacy, being a top middle-order batter. He scored ■,607 runs in 236 ODIS with 21 centuries and 51 fifties.
In 112 Tests, the classy right-hander scored 7.6■3 runs with 19 centuries and 35 fifties.
Taylor also witnessed the inception of T20 cricket at the start of his career. He featured in 102 T20IS scoring 1,909 runs. “For me, it was just being a player that tries to fight in as many situations as possible, gave it my all, played with a smile on my face and hopefully represented my country proudly, and with a lot of respect,” Taylor told Radio New Zealand.
