Pujara strikes form, scores double ton in English county
Out-of-favour India batter Cheteshwar Pujara registered a firstclass hundred after more than two years during his stint in the English county.
Pujara scored an unbeaten 201 for Sussex against Derbyshire that helped draw the County Championship Division Two game. He reached the landmark in 237 balls with a flick through midwicket. Earlier, the right-hander was dismissed for 6 off 15 balls as Sussex was wiped out for 174 in its first innings in response to Derbyshire’s 505 for eight declared. Following on, Pujara’s laborious knock saved the match for Sussex as it ended at 513 for the loss of three wickets. He followed it up with a first innings century (109) in a losing cause against Worcestershire.
Pujara’s last first-class ton came in January 2020 for Saurashtra against Karnataka in a Ranji Trophy match. And the last Test century was against Australia in Sydney in 2019.
In February 2022, he was dropped from the Indian team after a slump in form.
