- Wriddhaayan Bhattacharyya

Former Australia all-rounder Andrew Mcdonald has signed a four-year contract as head coach and selector of the men’s senior team.

Mcdonald was the interim coach of the Australian side after Justin Langer’s resignation under convoluted circumstances in February. Under his guidance, Pat Cummins and Co. won the Test series in Pakistan 1-0 and clinched the one-off T20I.

The 40-year-old has been a senior assistant to Langer and bowling mentor of the Australian team since 2019. And on several occasions, when Langer rested, he coached the side.

Mcdonald has coached Australia in an ODI series in India in 2020, a five-match T20I tour of New Zealand in 2021, and a five-match T20I tournament against Sri Lanka at home this year.

The T20 World Cup 2021 triumph in the United Arab Emirates boosted his reputation and work ethic.

Mcdonald will have a hectic itinerary for the remainder of the year with the Test series in India and Sri Lanka, followed by the T20 World Cup defence, in Australia.
