Eoin Morgan retires from international cricket

- Abhishek Mukherjee

England captain Eoin Morgan, 35, has announced his retirement from international cricket.

For the best part of his career with England, Morgan was its white-ball captain. He led England to the World Cup title in 2019, and a runner-up finish in the 2016 T20 World Cup. He will be remembered for being at the forefront of England’s remarkable resurgence in limited-overs cricket after it crashed out in the first round of the 50-over World Cup in 2015.

Having started his career with Ireland, he began playing for England in 2009. Morgan is one of 36 cricketers who have played international cricket — Tests, ODIS or T20IS — for two teams.

“I’m hugely proud of what I have achieved, but what I will cherish and remember most are the memories I made with some of the greatest people I know,” he said.
