Ben Stokes retires from ODIS
Ben Stokes has decided to stop playing one-day internationals for good. The first ODI of a three-match series against South Africa at Durham on July 19 was his last.
“Three formats are just unsustainable for me now. Not only do I feel that my body is letting me down because of the schedule and what is expected of us, but I also feel that I am taking the place of another player who can give Jos and the rest of the team their all,” Stokes said in a statement posted on social media.
Rob Key, managing director of the England team, hailed it as a “selfless decision.” Stokes played 105 ODIS for England. He was player of the match in the World Cup final in 2019.
