Seventeen-year-old David Popovici breaks world record
Romania's David Popovici broke the world record for men's 100m freestyle, clocking 46.■6 seconds to win gold at the European Swimming Championships in Rome. Cesar Cielo's record — he had clocked 46.91 seconds — stood for 13 years.
Popovici, 17, also became the youngest to achieve the feat. “It's nice being able to say that I am the fastest to ever do it and it's a good thing to know I clashed with all of the titans of this race,” he said.
